I thought there would be no more new paintings this year, but... the universe shifted in such a way that I simply had to paint. The main part was created on December 21st—the day of the solstice—and the final touches were added today.
It all unfolded in quite a fascinating way. Around midday on the 20th, I came across an ad for new paints that I felt an immediate urge to buy. Remarkably, they were delivered to me that very same day, just a few hours later. I took it as a sign, and carried by the solstice energy, I painted this...
Interestingly, as I discovered only after completing the piece, spiders (as a symbol) serve as mediators between different worlds (both vertically and horizontally), as well as between human and divine realms. The spider’s connection to creation, divine mysteries, and the spinning of threads of human lives closely links it to destiny, fate, witchcraft, and the gift of prophecy. Because of this, on an everyday level, the spider is often seen as a harbinger or bringer of good luck, wealth, or natural blessings. A spider descending on a thread of web is a widespread symbol of divine gifts.
When emphasizing the vertical movement of a spider climbing up its thread, it becomes a symbol of individual spiritual development and liberation. It appears in this exact role, for instance, in the Upanishads, where the sacred syllable "Om" serves as the thread—the means and support for spiritual self-realization.
All in all, it is a deeply fascinating subject. In my painting, many spiders revealed themselves, and the largest one is even holding a crystal in its legs... I truly love deciphering my paintings after they are finished.
